Liverpool starts strong with 4-0 win over West Ham

Klopp and Strurridge
  • Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the hosts in the first 20 minutes of Premier League clash on Sunday
  • Sadio Mane doubled Liverpool’s lead just before half-time, slotting the ball home from James Milner’s cross
  • Forward Mane scored his second and the Reds’ third in the 53rd minute of the one-sided encounter at Anfield
  • Substitute Daniel Sturridge added a fourth two minutes from time to seal all three points for the home side

Same old Liverpool, same old West Ham.

As Jurgen Klopp’s dashing team came flying from the blocks of the new season with a typical display of energy, invention and speed, West Ham proved desperately compliant opponents. Liverpool scored four times and that felt about right.

For the home team, this was the perfect way to begin a season from which so much is expected. After Klopp’s boxing analogies last week, his team reminded us just how hard – and how often – they can punch.
