Old students mark GCI 90th anniversary

Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) will celebrate 90 years of the founding of Government College Ibadan (GCI) over week-long activities slated to commence from Saturday, October 12, 2019 and will be round off on Saturday, 19th October 2019.
Government College Ibadan was founded in February 1929 by Selwyn McGregor Grier and V.B.V. Powell and it is one of the nation’s foremost citadels of learning that has bequeathed to generations of Nigerians an all-round well-grounded educational system of the British mould. This Boys only school has produced the likes of Wole Soyinka, Oladapo Akinkugbe, and Femi Oshofisan to mention a few.
The week long activities will commence in Lagos and Ibadan with a press conference on Saturday October 12 by the President of the GCIOBA Dr. Wale Babalakin, Pro Chancellor of University of Lagos, a drama presentation which is an adaptation of Wole Soyinka, Femi Oshofisan and Bode Sowande’s plays on Sunday, October 13 at the Main Auditorium of University of Lagos Akoka. The Annual Public Lecture titled “Resolving Nigeria’s Energy Challenges” is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 16 at the Afe Babalola Hall of Unilag.
The 90th anniversary activities will be rounded off on Saturday, October 19 with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and commissioning of two Halls; Powell and Carr worth N300 million undertaken by the Old Boys as well as the Annual Luncheon and presentation of Merit Awards to deserving Old Boys at the College premises.
