Reps want IGP to improve security in southern Adamawa

The House of Representatives on Monday asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris to scale-up security presence in 16 communities in the Southern Zone of Adamawa State
The call from the House to the IGP was sequel a motion raised under matters of urgent public importance by Rep.  Abdulrazak Namdas (Adamawa-APC) during plenary.
Leading the debate on the motion, Namdas expressed concern that the members of communities such as  Dakasun, Bakurehi, Tugga, Wuro-Galadima among others had been rendered homeless with over 200 hundred houses raised down during the attack.
According to him,  reprisal attacks were on the increase and had so far claimed over 15 lives and more than 3,000 people mostly women and children were currently displaced.
Namdas said the displaced persons are right now staying in five IDP camps namely Waka, Gorobi, Islamiya Primary School and Mayo-Farang all in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area with Red Cross and other voluntary organisations rendering assistance.

 When it was put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Dogara, it was unanimo
usly adopted by members and the House thereafter observed a minute silenxe  in honour of those who lost their lives.
Lawmakers further urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Presidential Committee on North East Initiatives to provide relief materials to the designated camps to ameliorate their sufferings.
The House ommittees on Emergency Management and Disaster Management and Committee on IDPs Refugees and Initiative on North-East were subsequently mandated to ensure implementation.
