Teenager stabs boyfriend to death over N3,000 in Sagamu

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a teenager, Idowu Abosede, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Aliyu Ibrahim, to death over the sum of N3,000.

The suspect was reported to have stabbed Ibrahim on the chest after she had passed a night at his place and took N3,000 from his pocket.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said both Abosede and Ibrahim were seen dragging a knife in the public before she reportedly stabbed him on the chest, which led to his death.

Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a distress call placed by the Seriki Hausa (Leader of Hausa community) in Sagamu to the Sagamu Divisional Police Headquarters.

The PPRO said, “The suspect was arrested following a distress call received from the Seriki Hausa in Sagamu that the suspect and her deceased boyfriend were arguing over the sum of N3,000 and as a result dragged a knife with each other with the girl eventually stabbing her boyfriend on his chest leading to his death.

“On receiving the distress call, the DPO Sagamu, SP Okiki Agunbiade, deployed his detectives to the scene where the suspected teenager was apprehended.

“The blood-stained knife which he used to stab the deceased was also recovered.”

The PPRO said the suspect while being interrogated claimed that she had passed the night with the deceased and when she was about leaving in the morning, she took the sum of N3,000 from the deceased.

Oyeyemi said the action by the suspect angered the deceased who tried to retrieve the money from her.

“The suspect further stated that it was the deceased who brought out the knife and while dragging it with him, the knife stabbed him on his chest.”

Oyeyemi said Ibrahim’s remains have been released to his relations upon their demand to bury him in accordance with Islamic rites.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
