The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths have urged the party leadership to give consideration to what the former head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) said recently in an interview that the next President of the country should be in his 60s.
Babangidda popularly known as IBB, had in an interview with Arise Television said he already has someone in mind as the ideal next President of Nigeria, and he’s a man in his 60s.
Speaking on the 2023 presidential election during a televised interview on Friday, August 6, 2021, the former military dictator had said his idea of a good Nigerian leader is someone who has a friend ‘virtually everywhere.
The PDP youths under the aegis of South South Youth Vanguard, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure, urged the party to consider the statement of IBB, if PDP wants to win the 2023 election.
The Youth Vanguard added that Nigeria needs a strong, agile and an intelligent person, who can relate well across board as the country is noted to be a multi-ethnic nation.
The Youth Vanguard further said that with these qualities in mind, the party will be able to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC)in the forthcoming presidential election.
“The position of IBB makes a lot of sense, the nation doesn’t need octogenarians or septugenerian at this point in time. We have experience them and it is time we look downward for strength, wisdom and other qualities that can take us away from this present quagmire.
“Look at how the country has degerated. A country Africa nations were very proud of has become beggerly. This is not what we bergain for. It’s high time we have a paradyn shift, where we consider a youthful age for the presidency.
“Having a candidate in his 60s will give us an edge over other political parties.”
