
The crisis rocking the Rivers State House of Assembly took a new dimension with twenty-seven members dumping the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state for the All Progressives Congress.
The lawmakers believed to be loyal to the minister of the FCT and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, cited what they described as the division within the PDP as the primary reason for their defection to the APC.
The lawmakers, it was gathered held plenary around 8am on Monday after which they made the decisive switch.
The lawmakers sat under tight security mounted at the entrance of the Assembly complex along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.
In reaction to the move by the lawmakers =, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, summoned an emergency executive council meeting.
The meeting, which is presently ongoing is expected to discuss the defection of 27 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly from the PDP to the APC.
