The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed Monday’s apology made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over the mistakes of the administrations it produced.
The APC in a statement issued on Tuesday, by its
National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, said it was understandable that the PDP apologised “for the damage the party has wrought on the country’s democratic fabric during its sixteen year rule”.
He however said the PDP must go a step further by undergoing restitution and atoning for its sins.
The statement read in part: “Despite this belated grovelling apology, PDP will need to come clean, confess to their sins and fully atone for it, before restitution is considered.
“As they say, to err is human but forgiveness is divine. We join PDP in praying to God to forgive them, but Nigerianss are human, who are still suffering from the years of PDP’s misrule.
“Therefore, even if Nigerians are gracious enough to forgive, they will not forget in a hurry”.
Recall that the PDP on Monday reflected on its 16 years stewardship and admitted it made some mistakes and asked Nigerians to forgive its wrongdoings.
National chairman of the party, Mr. Uche Secondus stated this at a public discourse on contemporary politics and governance in Nigeria, organised by the PDP in Abuja.
Speaking on the theme, “Nation Building: Resetting the agenda,” Secondus pledged the readiness of the PDP to learn from its mistakes arguing that regardless of what the party failed to do, experience remains the best teacher.
“The PDP was in power for 16 years and as expected, we made mistakes. We are sorry for our mistakes and when we return, we shall make this country better. We have experience, no any other party has it.
“The PDP has embarked on a rescue mission and together we will salvage this nation back from the grip of the incompetent All Progressives Congress (APC),” he stated.
