The House of Representatives has proposed a special fund for Nigerian Armed Forces as a way of empowering them to tackle the rising spate of insecurity.
At the plenary on Tuesday, the House resolved that the annual budgetary provisions for the security and intelligence agencies, especially the military, was inadequate.
Adopting a motion moved by the Chief Whip, Mohammed Monguno, based on the outcome of the meeting between the leadership of the House and the security and service chiefs on Monday, the lawmakers proposed that a special fund be created, while the $1bn security fund earlier approved by the legislature for the executive be investigated.
The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, also referred the proposal to an ad hoc committee for further legislative action.
