……..Gbajabiamila, Omo-Agege commiserate with late ex-governor’s family
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has commiserated with the family of the immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who died on Thursday.
Oyetola, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, described the former Oyo Governor’s death as unfortunate, painful and a great loss.
He said his thoughts and prayers are with the Ajimobi family, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the people of Oyo State.
“I am shocked and saddened by the demise of Senator Abiola Ajimobi. His death is unfortunate, painful and a huge loss. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ajimobi family, his loved ones, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the people of Oyo State, whom he served meritoriously as Governor for eight years,” the governor said.
Oyetola noted that Ajimobi’s administration brought reforms and unprecedented development to Oyo and its people, adding that he changed the face of governance in the State.
He said: “As a two-term governor, Senator Ajimobi redefined governance in Oyo State. His administration embarked on unprecedented infrastructure development in the State and redefined the urban status and development profile of not only the capital city, Ibadan but other major cities in the State.
“Senator Ajimobi was also a true progressive and a loyal party man. He was committed to the ideals of the APC and will be sorely missed by the party.”
Governor Oyetola prayed to Almighty Allah to overlook his shortcomings and grant him aljanah firdaus. He also asked God to comfort his family and loved ones.
On his part , Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the death of the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi as a great loss to his family, the people of the Oyo State and the country as a whole.
The Governor added that he is saddened by the loss.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile on Thursday, said Ajimobi’s shocking demise, after all efforts by medical professionals to stabilize him, when he took ill, has opened a deep sore in the hearts of millions of Nigerians, who looked up to him as a rallying point and a political stabilizer.
He said: “the passage of Senator Ajimobi hurt me. My heart was filled with grief when I was informed that I had lost another political icon our battle against the coronavirus.”
“Senator Ajimobi was more than a politician, he was a man of many parts, whose managerial skills and experience are required at this critical period in our national life.”
“Senator Ajimobi was a distinguished Nigerian, who bestrode the economic and political space of the country like a colossus. He made his mark in the corporate world before venturing into politics.
“As first elected Governor to serve two terms in Oyo State, his achievements will remain indelible in the annals of political history of that State and Nigeria as a whole.”
While commiserating with the deceased’s family, Sanwo-Olu urged them to take heart, saying ‘‘the death of loved ones is usually one of the most painful episodes in peoples’ lives but we must realize that death is inevitable. We all will die someday. Therefore we must gather enough strength to carry on.”
“It is with heavy heart that I commiserate with his beloved wife, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, the children and other family members he left behind. My heart and prayers are with you all at this period of your grief. May God comfort you.”
“May Allah grant the soul of late Isiaka Ajimobi eternal rest and preserve a place for him in Aljanah firdaus.” Sanwo-Olu said.
For the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, he expressed his grief over the death of the former Oyo State Governor.
Lawan said Ajimobi, who once represented Oyo South Senatorial District in the Senate before he was elected to two consecutive terms as governor, will be missed by the people of Oyo State and the progressives political family throughout Nigeria.
The Senate President said Oyo State will always remember him for his numerous achievements over which the people rewarded him as the first governor to be reelected in the history of the politically sophisticated state.
Lawan said his death will also be felt by the ruling All Progressives Congress especially at a time the party is calling all hands to the deck to steady its sail.
“We, at the Senate, mourn Senator Ajimobi who also served with merit at the upper legislative chamber between 2003 and 2007 during which time he was the Deputy Senate Minority Leader,” Lawan said.
Lawan expressed his condolences to the family, friends and political associates of the departed former governor and prayed for Allah to comfort them.
The Senate President also prayed for the repose of Ajimobi’s soul in Aljannat firdaus.
Still speaking on the passing of the former governor, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, condoled with the government and people of Oyo State over the demise of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Omo-Agege noted that the late Ajimobi would be remembered for his patriotism and passionate commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
While expressing shock and sadness over the unfortunate incident, Senator Omo-Agege said the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain left at a time his experience as an astute administrator would be needed most.
“As a senator in 2003 and governor of Oyo State between 2011 and 2019, his immense contributions to the development of the state and country will remain evergreen in our hearts,” he noted.
While extending his condolences to the government and people of the state and praying to the Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest, the Deputy President of the Senate called on Nigerians to remember his family in their prayers at these trying moments.
Finally, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has described the demise of the immediate past governor of Oyo State and All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Chairman, as a painful loss.
Gbajabiamila said Ajimobi was a peace-loving man that promoted same among his people and beyond, saying Oyo State and Nigeria have lost a patriotic leader.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, the Speaker said Ajimobi lived a fulfilled life and had served the people of Oyo State diligently and patriotically.
The Speaker said he was personally touched and deeply saddened by Ajimobi’s death, saying Ajimobi is the architect of modern Oyo whose legacy will last long in the heart of many Nigerians.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family, the people and government of Oyo State and the country as a whole, especially the larger APC family.
“Late Abiola Ajimobi was a strong pillar in the APC fold. Not only that, he was a dedicated leader that left his footprints in the sand of time in Oyo State when he served as governor for eight years, making him the longest serving governor of the state to date.
“I pray that God Almighty will grant him a peaceful resting place and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss,” Gbajabiamila said.
