SPECIAL CONDOLENCE MESSAGE:
FOUNDING DIRECTOR GENERAL PDP-GOVERNORS FORUM CONDOLES WITH THE OKUNBO FAMILY OF ANCIENT BINI KINGDOM ON THE SHOCKING DEATH OF THEIR GREAT SON
The founding Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Edo political chieftain, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, has sent a message of condolence to the family of late Captain Wells Idahosa Okunbo who died in the United Kingdom yesterday the 8th of August, 2021. This death is a terrible blow to the ancient Bini Kingdom, coming at a time when all hands are needed on deck to develop Edo State.
The Edo political chieftain would like to specially condole with the revered Monarch of the Bini Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the N’Ogidigan and the State Governor, His Excellency Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki on this irreplaceable loss to Edo State.
According to Earl Onaiwu, “Captain Okunbo, whom we fondly called ‘Cappy’ or Captain Hosa’, was a man of many parts whose personal and professional accomplishments covered almost the whole gamut of human endeavour and community relationship.” Captain Hosa touched so many lives in Nigeria generally and Edo State in particular, in the way and manner he carried himself and assisted the needy with an uncommon philanthropic zeal.
The political chieftain described the vacuum created by the sudden death of ‘Cappy’ as a big yawning gap across political divides, saying that “Cappy was a friend to many without predilection and regards to political affiliation, privileges and petty jealousies”. It will take another generation to match the uncommon humanitarian spirit which Captain Hosa brought to bear on the Edo people in particular.” Continuing, he said, we had our political differences but that did not affect our friendship and common vision for the prosperity of Edo people.
Importantly, Earl Osaro Onaiwu said he would like to use this opportunity to thank “our childhood friends like Tony Odigie, Greg Nwanseru and Peter Okundaye, who all stood by Captain Hosa during the trying period and comforted him before he took his last breath. These guys are specially appreciated
for the personal sacrifices that they made for our departed friend and brother.
Earl Osaro Onaiwu prayed that the good Lord will grant the Okunbo family and the Edo people the fortitude and equanimity to bear the loss and look forward with hope, knowing full well that the departed lived a fulfilled life while on this side of eternity. Invoking the holy writ, he said, the Bible is clear that, ‘there is a season, a time for everything under the heaven. Time to plant and time to harvest, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance” and therefore, we are comforted that all is well”, concluded the Statement.
