A’Ibom police command nabs 276 armed  robbers,  kidnappers in two months

Akwa Ibom state commissioner of police Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi has  disclosed that  the command has arrested  a total of two hundred and seventy- six suspects for various offences, ranging from Murder, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, cultism and other crimes in the last two months adding that most of whom have been charged to court while others are under investigation.
He made the disclosure recently in Uyo.
He said “A total of two hundred and seventy- six (276) suspects were arrested for various offences, ranging from Murder, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, cultism and other crimes most of whom have been charged to court while others are under investigation. We have prosecuted 193 cases and secured 23 convictions”.
According to him, “19 locally made Pistols, 1 pump action gun and 1 AK-47 rifle were recovered. One Toyota Camry Saloon car with Reg. CAL 584 NF and one Toyota Corolla vehicle with Reg. No. AA 50 NRJ and a  total of fifty (52) ammunition were recovered”.

He however stressed that the command has worked to ensured that a 83  years old woman has regained freedom.

“A 83-year-old woman, Mrs. Comfort Joshua was rescued from kidnappers den in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, on Thursday, 19th July, 2018 and two of her Adductors gunned down during exchange of fire with the Police”.

He said “Three criminals responsible for the vandalization and stealing of transformer armored cables, Solar panels and street lights were arrested and their loots recovered from Ikot Abasi and Abak Local Government Areas respectively.

Rescue of  2 years four months old child, Miss Testimony Christopher Bassey ‘f’ from her abductors in Abia State where six suspects were arrested in connection with her abduction.

A 4-year-old child, one Bright J. Monday ‘f’ was rescued from her Abductors along Aka road by IBB roundabout, Uyo, and four suspects have been arrested”

He commended the federal government over the community policing approach noting that it has curtailed crimes and forestall normalcy in the last two months.

He said, “We have increased visibility policing across the state, thereby making our response time to distress calls to be very swift. Our community Policing approach has endeared us to the populace and created more confidence in the minds of the people. Our mode of operations in ensuring that Akwa Ibom State has the lowest crime rate in the country is yielding results”.

Speaking on the peaceful environment for business to thrive Ogunyemilus noted, “Akwa Ibom State is one of the safest States in the country and a destination of choice for Investors and Tourist alike is no longer news. This is so because I have championed a new course of policing in the State in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris,  and in line with global best practices”.

He maintained that the command under his watch  will beef their search light to eradicate crime in the  state.

“The Command is determined to sustain the tempo in crime fighting and protection of lives and property.”
