Despite creating many chance, Nigeria’s Super Eagles played a goalless draw with Rwanda for the first leg of AFCON qualifiers.
President Paul Kigame was in the stands his team held the Super Eagles to a draw days after the Eguavoen-led side thrashed Benin Republic 3-0 on Saturday in Uyo, bringing their points tally in the group to four points.
Nigeria dominated the match but couldn’t convert any of the chances created after Ademola Lookman’s first have goal was controversially disallowed.
Victor Boniface, who started the match despite his performance in Uyo burst into life in the 36th minute. He hit the upright with his thunderous attempt after a sequence of eye-catching footwork. The rebound fell to the path of Lookman, but the Ballon d’Or nominee’s tame header was easy to deal with for the Rwanda backline.
Austine Eguavoen made half-time changes, bringing in the duo that helped Nigeria secure the victory against Benin Republic: Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon. However, the hosts had the better of the second-half’s openings, but the Super Eagles soon found their footing and resumed dominance.
Even with five minutes added as extra time the game ended without goals.
