…..Julius Berger Awarded Contract To Provide Primary Infrastructure

Managing Director of the Centenary City Free Zone Enterprise, Dr. Odenigwe Ike Michaels Jnr, has announced the resumption of work at the Abuja Centenary City after a ten-year pause.
He made the announcement at a media parley held at Centenary City, further disclosing that Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has been contracted for the provision of infrastructure as part of Phase 1 of Centenary City.
Odenigwe, while acknowledging the 10-year delay resulting from a change of government and subsequent policy changes, said the entire project is now valued at N2.4 trillion.
Giving a breakdown of the planned execution of the project, he said the Phase 1 Primary Infrastructure which is to cost N750 billion will be executed in Lots.
Lot 1 includes the Plot Access Road of 4.3 km and the Secondary
Infrastructure of the Grove Residences, the Safari Park Residences and The
Ridge Villas.
He further disclosed that Dar Al-Handasah Consultants (DAR) which
coordinated the master plan of the city has been retained to execute the detailed
engineering design of the entire project.
He said: “We seek to remind us again that Centenary City is conceptualised as the
foremost Abuja Urban Renewable Project. And the idea of engaging these
reputable companies is to guarantee the development of the city according to
the vision reflected in the original master plan.
“Centenary City Project presents a great opportunity to create value and raise
Abuja’s profile – to encourage international investment in Abuja. The project is
designed to work in harmony with nature. The districts and communities are
designed to fit in among the natural landscape, offering both an impressive
downtown skyline and peaceful suburban living.
“The city is conceptualized as a truly multifunctional development that offers a complete cosmopolitan
lifestyle to its residents, as well as serves as a tourism hub for the wider
community”.
Responding to questions from the media, Odenigwe explained that the Abuja Centenary City will generate one hundred and fifty thousand construction jobs and another two hundred and fifty thousand jobs, when the project is fully completed. “We know the capacity of the Centenary City project to create jobs”, he said.
Odenigwe who gave a 10-15 year timeline for the completion of the five phases of the project, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister for the FCT, Nyesom Wike for supporting the rejuvenation of the much-awaited project.
He said: “After a pause in the development and construction, the project is now back on
track with the promise to redefine sub-Saharan Africa’s skyline and enhance
Nigeria’s global standing in urban development.
“We are delighted to acknowledge the visionary leadership of His Excellency,
Barr. Nysom Wike, the Hon. Minister of FCT who in his wisdom has
encouraged masterly and sustainable development in FCT.
“We are also delighted to acknowledge the unwavering support of the Hon. Minister of
Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa who sees the
true meaning of modern urban renewal in the project.
Some of the key components of Centenary City include: Five Star Hotels, Luxury Serviced Apartments and Residences, International Commerce Centre (ICC), Centenary International Convention Center (CICC), Mall of Africa, Championship Golf Course and Golf Estate, Championship Polo Courses and Polo Estate, Nigeria Park, Safari Park, Industrial Park and African Arts Museum.
