President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi has hailed the union at 70.
In a message to members and the public, Abdullahi, hailed the role played by the union in protecting the freedom of the press, upholding the ethics of the profession and defending democracy.
He urged members to reflect on the history of the NUJ and to renew their commitment to upholding the values of the union.
The message read: “I am thrilled to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) with each and every one of you. As the president of this esteemed union, I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude and admiration for all the hard work and dedication that you have put into the field of journalism.
“Over the past seven decades, the NUJ has played a crucial role in championing press freedom, defending the rights of journalists, and ensuring ethical standards in the industry. Your commitment to speaking truth to power, holding those in authority accountable, and giving voice to the voiceless is truly admirable and inspiring”.
“As we mark this milestone anniversary, let us reflect on the legacy of the NUJ and renew our commitment to upholding the values of journalism. Together, we can continue to strive for a more just and democratic society, where the press remains free and independent.
“Congratulations to all NUJ members on reaching this significant milestone. Here’s to the next 70 years of excellence in journalism”.
