Some aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, representing Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency have accused the governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, and the party Chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, of imposing a candidate on them.
They (aspirants) have vowed not to work for the candidate of the party in the forthcoming general elections, particularly, the National Assembly election.
Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved aspirants on Monday, Mr. Mayokun Alade said the party had acted against its constitution by not allowing a federal constituency primary election to be conducted.
According to him, 14 House of Representatives’ aspirants were allowed to contest the primary. He said the ‘anointed’ candidate of the governor was not a representative of the members of the party in the federal constituency because he was imposed on the people.
He said, “There was no election (primary) in Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency. On that day (of the primary) we organised our people and mobilised from every unit down to the election.
“On getting there, there was no election. There were thugs shooting everywhere and everybody had to leave the venue. We discovered that people from the state government are trying to compromise the election. We had a meeting and they never told us that we were going to have any consensus candidate.
“This is a progressive party but I don’t see any progress in the party. Everybody is just trying to do what he wants. If we cannot come together now how are we going to win the general elections?”
He noted that the aggrieved aspirants would not leave the party but would not work for the party in the general elections.
