APC stalwart killed in Rivers State

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress was murdered by unknown gunmen on Sunday night in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The APC chieftain, who was identified as John Chu, was said to be returning home after a meeting of his political party in the area when he was accosted and shot several times by his assailants.

Chu was before his death the Chairman of the APC, Ward 7 in Onne and had been involved in his party’s campaign within his area.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the killing of the party chief to our correspondent on Monday, saying that Chu was shot and killed by a group of gunmen on his way back from a party meeting.

“I can confirm to you that the APC Ward 7 chairman in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area, John Chu, was shot dead by unknown gunmen. The incident happened while he was returning home in the evening after his party’s meeting,” Omoni said.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, the state police spokesman, explained that investigation into the matter had begun with a view to apprehending those behind the dastardly act.
