Atiku, Nigerians on social media mourn, Buhari critic, Stanley Nwabia

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the February presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sadness at the death of social commentator, Stanley Nwabia.

Mr Nwabia, 43, reportedly died on Sunday following an unsuccessful blood transfusion procedure in Lagos State.

He was a supporter of the opposition PDP and unapologetic critic of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a message posted on Twitter on Sunday morning, Atiku Nwabia’s sudden death is a cause for sobering emotions.”

He described the deceased as a patriotic Nigerian and forthright supporter of our great party,” praying that “God Almighty console his family and may his soul rest in peace.”

Other fans of Nwabia’s took to Twitter to mourn him, one of them is Kelvin Odanz, who stated: “Stanley Nwabia’s death is so devastating for me. We have worked extensively over multiple projects, we keep in touch constantly. Upright, brilliant, hardworking, honest guy. Spoke to him last week. This one hits home. I am broken. Rest in peace@MrStanleyNwabia”

Another admirer, Tosin Olugbenga, using the @TosinOlugbenga handle tweeted: “Our dear @MrStanleyNwabia died this morning after a brief illness. Dear Stanley Nwabia, we would miss your voice against the anti people’s policies of the govt Another brilliant mind of ours lost to the cold hands of death. Rest In Peace King”.

Using his @YemieFash Twitter handle, another known critic of the current administration, Yemi Fasipe said: “I still shared a tweet with you for retweet 2days ago you did not a respond, very unlike you. I thought you were busy, didn’t know you were sick, now you are dead. God knows best. Rest In Peace Stanley Nwabia

@MrStanleyNwabia”.

Nollywood star, Kate Henshaw also eulogised Nwabia on Twitter, saying: “It all pales into nothingness when we shuffle off this mortal coil….nothing dey this life… here today, gone tomorrow… RIP Stanley Nwabia.. May your soul rest in perfect peace.. Amen”.

Even in death, Nwabia drew criticism from those who don’t admire his many uncomplimentary posts against Buhari. This is as another popular social media figure and activist, Deji Adeyanju alleged that PDP stalwarts deserted Nwabia in his time of need.

The founder of Igbo news channel, Ikenga TV, Nwabia campaigned vigorously for Atiku before and after the presidential election.

He was adored by opposition commentators on social media for his unsparing criticism of President Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A native of Abia State, Nwabia was born and lived in Lagos throughout his life.

He was survived by his wife and four children.
