The woes of controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, further got complicated on Monday as he was transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos State, where he spent the night in a cell at the dreaded police facility.
Social media content creator Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, broke the story of Bobrisky’s arrest by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service as he tried to sneak into Benin Republic Sunday night.
VDM alleged in a video posted on his Instagram page on Monday that Bobrisky was apprehended at the Seme border while attempting to flee to the Benin Republic to avoid a scheduled investigative hearing by the House of Representatives.
Bobrisky was taken to the FCID for safekeeping following his arrest by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service during his attempt to exit the country through the Seme border, the Punch reports.
“Bobrisky was brought to the FCID, Alagbon, around 10 p.m. on Monday. Immigration arrested him at Seme Boarder and brought him for safekeeping.
“He is in detention at the FCID, Alagbon. He was arrested on Sunday, detained overnight, and taken to the FCID, Alagbon, around 10 pm on Monday. He is still at the FCID”, the newspaper quotes a source as saying.
The genesis of Bobrisky’s travails can be traced to the controversy between him, VeryDarkMan, respected lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), and his rapper son Folarin, popularly known as Falz. The controversy has took another twist with Bobrisky refusing to apologise to the Falanas as demanded by their lawyers last Wednesday.
The Falanas had issued a 12-hour ultimatum to Bobrisky, to give a public apology and retraction of defamatory statements made by him in a viral voice recording.
In the viral audio posted by VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky had alleged that he bribed some Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officials with N15 million to drop the money laundering charge against him.
In the purported recording, the crossdresser also claimed that his “godfather,” alongside the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, ensured he served the six-month sentence in a private apartment and not in prison.
Also in the clip, Bobrisky claimed that he spoke with the SAN’s rapper and actor son Falz, who said he would speak with his dad to get him presidential pardon for N10 million.
However, in a letter dated October 14, 2024, from Falana’s legal representatives, Olorunfemi Akinyemi and Taiwo E. Olawanle, and seen by journalists last Wednesday, Bobrisky was accused of making false and defamatory statements regarding Falana and his son’s involvement in the alleged bribery scheme.
The legal team stated that the accusations were baseless and damaging to Falana’s reputation.
But in a post on Instagram Bobrisky said he didn’t give either of the Falanas money for any type of service.
He also asked the father and son duo to deal with VeryDarkMan and not him.
“I Okuneye Idris aka Bobrisky didn’t give Falz or his dad any money for pardon. As a matter of fact, no penny was given to them. Have said this before and I will say it again. The person that published an audio online should take full responsibility for what he posted in public.
“My lawyer will respond to any further information the public wants about this ongoing issue trending on social media,” Bobrisky wrote on his Instagram story on Wednesday.
In another post, the crossdresser wrote, “In reply to the two letters in circulation from the law firm of the Falanas. I like to state for the records and pending the official reply from my counsel, state for the avoidance of doubt that I Okuneye Idris Olarewaju aka Bobrisky did not publish any defamatory statement or statements concerning the learned SAN and his son Falz and that in the public domain pursuant to my solicitor’s letter dated the 27th day of September 2024 that I have denied any knowledge of what VDM published.
“I stand to express denial and put the matter to strict proof and advise that whoever has been defamed should hold the publisher of defamatory content and my fundamental rights to privacy of my communications should be respected and protected. Best.”
On how he was arrested at the border witnesses Bobrisky arrived at the border post around 1:30 am in a black SUV Mercedes Benz.
After being stopped by Port Health officials, the driver proceeded to the Immigration checkpoint, where Bobrisky’s identity was discovered.
Immigration surveillance officer identified simply as Yusuf alerted senior officials, and Bobrisky was taken to the controller’s office for questioning. His lawyer later arrived, inquiring about the arrest.
“The immigration surveillance officer, identified as Yusuf, while going through the passport, detected that the person inside the vehicle was Bobrisky.
“He called the most senior officer on duty to the scene, and they secretly invited the Controller of Immigration, Seme Command, Mr Muhammad Adamu.
“The surveillance officer then went back to invite Bobrisky for capturing in order to stamp the passport.
“On getting to the surveillance unit for capturing, he was taken to the controller’s office for questioning,” a source told NAN.
