Chairman, Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, on Monday announced that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the relaxation of restriction on places of worship in the next phase of the management of the pandemic.
He however said that the ban on interstate travels remains, while churches and mosques aren’t to have more 20 persons during meetings.
The next stage implention will run though June.
“After considering all factors mentioned above, the PTF submitted its recommendations and the President has approved the following for implementation over the next four weeks spanning 2nd – 29th June, 2020, subject to review-cautious advance into the Second Phase of the national response to COVID-19”, he disclosed.
Mustapha also said there will be a continued managed access to markets and locations of economic activity to limit the risk of transmission. He however announced that the full lockdown placed on Kano State has been lifted.
The PTF chairman stressed that Federal Government’s decisions on the COVID-19 pandemic will be based on science and data, especially with regard to the targeting of on-going high transmission of COVID-19 in the country.
He stressed the need for mobilisation of all resources at State and Local Government levels to create public awareness on COVID 19 and improve compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions within communities.
Going forward, Mustapha said the government at all levels should ensure the mandatory provision of handwashing facilities/sanitisers in all public places, temperature checks in public places and people maintaining 2 metres between people in public places.
He said: “this is still a fight for life and our advancement to phase two does not mean that COVID-19 has ended. It is still potent and highly wasteful of human lives. I implore all Nigerians and corporate citizens to take responsibility and play the expected role”.
