While receiving them on Tuesday (today), President Muhammadu Buhari expressed concerns about what happened to the $16bn allegedly spent on power projects in the past in the country, considering the current poor state of the sector.
Commending members of the support group, the President admitted that not many of them had benefited anything for supporting him over the years from his opposition days until now.
He said that many of the supporters only expect their reward from God, while they also work for a better future for their own children and grandchildren.
Buhari urged his supporters to continue to pray that God put people of conscience at all levels of government in the country.
“We have nothing to regret. Absolutely nothing, since we all believe that God works in our hearts, not in our talking.
“God help us, God help our children and grandchildren. We will try as much as we can to work and bring this country to its senses.
“God has given Nigeria everything; we are rich in human and material resources. Let us keep praying to God that He should put people of conscience in charge at all levels,” he said.
In his response, Ali said that only lazy Nigerians will claim to be hungry under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Enumerating what he called the achievements of the present administration in agriculture, Ali noted that manna does not fall from heaven, hence the lazy must be hungry.
He said, “What more can we say in terms of growth of wealth?
“People say, ‘We are hungry.’ Of course, the lazy must be hungry because if you do not work hard, manna doesn’t fall from heaven.
“So, when people say we are hungry, there was never a time in Nigeria that food is dropped in the mouth of the people and there can never be.”
He told Buhari that Nigerians are solidly behind him in his quest to seek re-election in 2019.
“All we want to say on behalf of Nigerians is that we are solidly behind you in this second term bid,” Ali said.
