Senator Dino Melaye

Senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye has narrated how he escaped what he called a dangerous attack.

Melaye tweeted on Friday that he spent 11 hours in the “wilderness”.

Melaye’s brother had raised an alarm on Thursday that the senator had been kidnapped.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce had tweeted that Moses Melaye told him that the lawmaker was bundled into a Toyota Sienna while he was travelling to Kogi.

“I have just been informed by Moses Melaye, @dino_melaye’s brother, that Dino has been abducted by unknown persons in a Toyota Sienna that blocked their car and overpowered them on their way to Kogi to answer to Dino’s court case. Lets be on the watch out. Will keep you updated”, Bruce had tweeted.

But writing via his Twitter handle on Friday, Melaye thanked Nigerians for their prayers while in “custody”.

“I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love.

“Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom only I trust. They will continue to try. We shall overcome”, he tweeted.

The police had earlier said it received no report or complaint of the senator’s alleged kidnap.

Melaye was absent on Thursday at a magistrate court in Lokoja, Kogi state, where he is facing a gun-running trial.

Owing to his absence, the case was adjourned till August 9.
