The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday announced the rejection of the application for bail filed by suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sunday J. Ubua.
Recall that the duo alongside five others was charged in relation to offences of unlawful drug dealings.
Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling on Monday morning, held that the prosecution has placed sufficient materials before the court to warrant the refusal of bail to both senior police officers.
Instead, Justice Nwite granted an accelerated hearing of the case.
The anti-narcotic agency had described Kyari as “a flight risk”, arguing that if granted bail, the suspended DCP might escape.
The NDLEA which said the applicant might interfere with the evidence if granted bail, urged the court to dismiss Kyari’s bail plea.
It argued that the medical challenges of the applicant was not beyond the capacity of the agency’s medical personnel.
The judge, in the ruling, aligned with NDLEA’s position and dismissed the request.
He also ordered the transfer of Kyari and his co-defendants to Kuje Prison in Abuja
