President of Association of Professional bodies of Nigeria(APBN), Dr Omede Idris has called on Nigerians, especially Muslims to reflect on the sacrifice at Eid el Kabir, describing it as a panacea for a desirable Nigeria.
Idris a former president of the Nigerian Medical Association and past commissioner of Health in Kogi State, also called on professionals in Nigeria and in the Diaspora to use the occasion of 2018 Eid el-Kabir (Adha) celebration to soberly reflect on the essence of the sacrifice by Prophet Ibrahim of his only son Ismael, which at the very nick of time was replaced with a ram through an angel.
“The reflection and yearly rite, should bring to bear on our everyday life realities and existence”, Idris said in a goodwill message to Muslims to mark the Eid el-Kabir Sallah celebration on behalf of APBN.
“In reflecting on this we should ask ourselves how much as human have we imbibed and demonstrated this in our daily life as we conduct our everyday lives, in quest for our survival and better living conditions.
“Have we truly demonstrated selflessness, supported one another in the spirit of love, honesty, sincerity, unity, shared values and dedication in line with the injunction and will of Allah, the holy books and authentic scriptures? Surely, if we do this, from the leadership to led, supporters, opinion leaders and moulders, we would have a better, saner, more productive, happier state, nation and globe to live in.
“As the Nation moves towards a general elections, APBN uses this occasion to call all political gladiators and participants to play politics devoid of acrimony, deceit, destruction and mayhem, and allow the will of majority of the citizens or people to prevail.
“The system cannot advocate decency and good governance if these are not exemplified by the government, the private sector, the various Ministries, Departments,Agencies, umpires and security operatives saddled with specific responsibilities. Nigeria is a blessed nation.
“What is expected of us all as a people and nation is to strategically harness the innate blessing and gifts through good governance and leadership for the benefit of all. The 21st century should be Nigeria’s year of attainment of greater and better reckoning in all schemes of an inclusive development and progress”, the statement further read.
