…Urges Nigerian women to harness opportunities presented by President’s second coming
Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), Mrs. Mary Ekpere-Eta Esq, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his resounding victory at the polls.
She commended President Buhari for keeping his promise that the 2019 elections would be conducted in an atmosphere of peace, with the relevant government institutions playing their roles according to the law. This as she hailed the Wife of the President, Dr. Aisha Buhari, for first mobilizing female aspirants across political parties during the 2018 female aspirants summit held at the NCWD and for coordinating women and youth participation during the campaigns.
Ekpere-Eta also commended other frontline presidential candidates from opposition parties for putting up a good challenge for the nation’s top job, saying the vibrancy and competiveness of the 2019 presidential race has deepened Nigeria’s democracy.
“I heartily congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on his decisive victory. Mr. President, along with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo campaigned on the achievements of the change government and a promise to further improve on the Federal Government meeting the expectations of Nigerians.
“The mother of the nation and the amiable wife of the President, Dr. Aisha Buhari, equally deserves praise for mobilizing women and youths in their millions. Her timely involvement in discussing the best strategies for women’s success at the polls and her consistency during the electioneering period can be counted as one the interventions that led to a high level of participation by women and young people”, she further stated in the personally signed statement.
The NCWD Director-General rated Nigerian women highly for participating in the electoral process as voters, volunteers, candidates and other important roles, calling on the women folk to position themselves to further benefit from programmes and policies targeted at improving the socio-economic standing of women.
Ekpere-Eta reminded women and youths to go out and vote during the governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday March 9th.
