Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will soon commence a meeting with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus, Frontline News Online can reveal.
Frontline News Online exclusively gathered that Atiku who is scheduled to meet with lawmakers elected under the PDP by 8pm today in the National Assembly is expected to sell his candidature to them.
Sources who spoke with this newspaper attributed the presence of many members of the PDP Caucus late on Wednesday to their willingness to give all presidential aspirants in the party an opportunity to sell thier candidature.
This is even as a ranking member of the House elected under the PDP opined that the former Vice-Preisdent’s visit will be followed by that of other front-runners for the party’s presidential ticket.
“Many of us are still in the office because Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is meeting with us this evening.
“There is no gainsaying that the (PDP) National Assembly Caucus is an influential block that all of the serious aspirants should meet with”, he said
The source further disclosed that the House Caucus was yet to pick any candidate, even as the mood in the main opposition party is for major stakeholders to back any candidate that emerges in a free and fair primary.
“I can say, I and many of my colleagues don’t want to get emotional about any aspirant. The feeling is that we must produce a northern candidate in a transparent manner and we all back him fully during the elections”, he added.
Meanwhile, the former Minister of Works and Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party frontline politician, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, has endored Atiku, saying, Nigeria is at crossroads and requires the expertise of a seasoned administrator who can correct the utterly frustrating and hopeless situation that the country finds itself since the inauguration of APC’s President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ogunlewe, who was speaking at the inauguration of Women and Youth Support Group (WAYS) for Atiku 2019, said that former Vice President and chieftain of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar possesses the credentials of a president that Nigeria needs to rework the national economy and bring the country together.
According to Senator Ogunlewe, Atiku’s political trajectory started in 1989 in the days of the Peoples Democratic Movement, “and in those years, Atiku has remained steadfast to the course of strengthening democratic institutions and bringing people together to pursue common good for the country.”
