Coordinating minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali-Pate has assured that the Federal Government is committed to improving the quality of services provided at government owned tertiary hospitals.
Pate took to his X account to explain the outcome of a recent meeting with the committee of Chief Medical Directors of tertiary hospitals in the country.
In a series of tweets the minister highlighted the key areas which government will invest in to improve the standard of care in the hospitals.
He said: “The promise of Mr. President @officialABAT to improve healthcare outcomes and offer Nigerians better living standards, as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, means that we must ensure that patients and clients receive high quality and safe care in Federal Tertiary Hospitals. Indeed, the standard of care at our tertiary hospitals could be better. Patient safety strategies put in place and the competency level of clinical and non-clinical support staff in the hospitals could be improved to increase their impact on the overall service delivery performance.
“My discussions with the Committee of Chief Medical Directors/Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria, led by Prof Emem Bassey, was on assessing the challenges and how the Ministry can support their capacities and the work they do. Hospital is a learning organization, and as part of objective for human resource for health training, we encourage open processes, shared learning and knowledge base for quality improvement”.
He stated that the Federal Ministry of Health will work on waivers on employment, patient safety, training of staff and power supply to the hospitals.
” We will work to expedite the waivers required as necessary to ensure clinical staff are hired. We will also work with our colleagues in the Power Ministry to address burden of energy requirements of the hospitals is reduced, including use of solar power systems. The strong political will of H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in approving the establishment of a Sector Wide Approach for resource alignment and défragmentation in the health sector, as well as the Presidential Unlocking Healthcare Value Chain Initiative, among others, is very key to achieving our set goals.
“We also have the support of our development partners; and believe that, with God on our side, we will save lives, produce health, and achieve health security for all Nigerians”, he tweeted.
