
The Federal Government has renamed the University of Abuja after the former head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris announced the renaming of the school during a briefing of State House correspondents at the end of the Council meeting, presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Idris also announced that Federal Government approved free train service nationwide starting from December 20 to January 6, 2025 to reduce the burden on travelers during the Christmas season.
The Minister further said the university will now be known as Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, in recognition of his contribution to the stability of the country.
He said that the Council will write the National Assembly on the resolution and the change.
The Information Minister also said cabinet members will embark on recess from 18th December and resume on January 6, 2025.
