House Majority Leader, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila campaign organization is on course to emerging the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin has said.
Jibrin, who is the Director-General of the Gbajabiamila Campaign Team insisted on Monday the Lagos lawmaker enjoys massive support and has the numbers to defeat any other candidate.
Speaking during a parley with members of the House Press Corp, Jibrin stated that Gbajabiamila has a large number of followers from the main opposition People Democratic Party(PDP) on his side.
He also disclosed that those supporting the House leader are lobbying the current Speaker, Rep. Yakubu Dogara, who many believe his support is needed for any candidate to emerge as Speaker.
“We are also lobbying the incumbent Speaker for his support because of his block vote in the House”, he said.
The campaign organisation said on a daily basis, it is reaching all other contestants vying for the Speakership position for a consensus, “not through the use of force but lobbying base on understanding”, said Jibrin.
Responding to questions regarding Gbajabiamila being backed by the National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Jibrin argued that almost every politicians in the country have a mentor.
Speaking further, he said Governor Nasir El-rufai is in support of the Gbajabiamila/Rep. Idris Wase ticket.
On the issue of the “Muslim/Muslim ticket” , Jibrin said no individual has ever controlled the National Assembly be it in the past or present; adding that the legislature does not make decisions based on sentiment.
He further argued that the endorsement of Gbajabiamila for the office of Speaker is based on merit.
