Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has dismissed speculations of a planned mass defection of members elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gbajabiamila insisted on Thursday, that there was no need for worry as talks that a significant number of APC lawmakers will be switching parties remains in the realm of speculation.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the APC House Caucus, the lawmaker described the threatened defection of more than half of members elected under the ruling party, as an empty boast.
” Where did you find that out from? Let them go first. Talk is cheap”, he said in response to questions from journalists.
When asked if as the Majority Leader of the House, he wasn’t worried that his party could be reduced to minority status , he replied: “I am not scared at all.”

” I don’t dwell on rumours, I dwell on reality. Let that reality come first. There is no fire on the mountain, not at all”, he added
Despite denials from the House Majority Leader, talks of a planned mass defection which has been shifted to next week in a bid to perfect the move is not receding.
According to a source, the Caucus meeting which took place in room 236 in the new House of Reps building focused majorly on the threat by many members to leave the party, thereby threatening its majority status in the House.
Recall that Frontline News Online exclusively reported that some members of the Reformed APC attended a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party Caucus, during which the former Vice-President and presidential aspirant, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar formally announced that he will be contesting for the party’s presidential ticket.
Further pointing to a looming defection was the absence of members from Kwara, Oyo and Benue states at today’s meeting.
