Gombe gov appoints new Mai Tangale despite protests

After days of several protests, Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Yahaya, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of Malam Danladi Maiyamba, as the new traditional ruler of Tangale people, also known as Mai Tangale.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the people of Billiri Local Government Area in the state kicked against the governor’s choice of Danladi, who was defeated by another candidate, Musa Maiyamba.

The development culminated in a series of protests, which resulted in the destruction of properties and loss of lives.

However, the Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Jalo, presented an appointment letter to the new Mai Tangle in Poshiya, in Billiri, on Wednesday.

“Based on the recommendation of the Kingmakers of the Tangale Chiefdom, the Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the appointment of Malam Danladi Sanusi Maiyamba as the Mai Tangle,” commissioner said.

He said the the appointment of Danladi was informed by his personal qualities and suitability, adding that the presentation of Staff of Office will be done in due course.

Meanwhile, a team of lawyers in Tangale has said the decision of the governor would be challenged in court.
