Former minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Yakubu Lame on Wednesday, accused Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of failing to provide good governance to the people of Bauchi State.
Speaking at a media briefing by a group, Concerned Citizens of Bauchi, he alleged that the governor is not an indigene of Bauchi, further making what he insisted was a case of poor governance even more difficult to accept.
According to him, Governor Abubakar is from Kogi State.
Lame alongside other aggrieved aspirants under the Bauchi All Progressives Congress (APC) maintained that primaries didn’t hold in their state.
He expressed disappointment that the Sen. Oserheimen Osunbor -led Appeal Committee of the APC upheld results from Bauchi despite the petitions from the state, which he said contained enough evidence to show that primaries including the governorship primary did not take place.
“As far as we are concerned, anybody can come and become governor in Bauchi. Any citizen of Nigeria, who has met the constitutional requirements can become governor of Bauchi. We are not challenging him (governor) because he is not an indigene. He is from Kogi State.
“We wouldn’t have been concerned about where he comes from, if he is performing. After all, we voted for him even when we knew he is from Kogi”, Lame said.
Another governorship aspirant, Capt. Bala Jibrin, who had earlier laid the allegation of the governor being a non-indigene equally described the conduct of primaries in the state as highly unacceptable.
According to the APC stalwart Gov. Abubakar was only appointed into the Bauchi State civil service in 1980, due to the low number of qualified indigenes for professional vacancies.
He accused the governor of “terrorizing” traditional rulers in the state to support him, even as he said little progress has been recorded under the current administration in Bauchi State.
“We frown at the attempt of the governor to politicize our revered Emirs. We are therefore calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore the antics of Governor Abubakar as his sole aim of bringing our Emirs is to plead for his second term”, Jibrin said.
