Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has announced the introduction of a N10,000 allowance for civil servants as part of palliative measures to help cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Otu also announced other initiatives including the reintroduction of mass transit and continiation free education in public primary and secondary schools.
The new measures came in announcement by Gov. Otu.
He said: “Dear Cross Riverians, to cushion the effect of the withdrawal of petrol subsidy, my administration has outlined a few palliative measures:Payment of N10,000 allowance to all workers across board for the next six months beginning from September 2023.Re- introduction of mass transit system for inter-city travels on fairly subsidized rate for all citizens. Continuation of free tuition in all government-owned primary and secondary schools.
“Additionally, the government will sustain the payment of examination fees for SSCE for state indigenes. My administration will provide free medical care for children under 5 and pregnant women. This will be extended to include elderly aged 60 years and above. Our farmers will be granted soft-loans and provided with fertilizer and other inputs to boost food production in the state”.
