Iโ€™ll beat COVID-19, says Lagos health commissioner

Lagos Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, says he is responding positively to treatment after testing positive for COVID-19.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, had in a statement on Monday disclosed Abayomiโ€™s COVID-19 status.

Abayomi, in a message posted on hisย Twitterย account, @ProfAkinAbayomi, said that he remains committed to discharging his duties to the state, while expressing optimism that he will beat the virus.

โ€œWith utmost sense of responsibility, I am obliged to make it known to the general public that I have tested positive to #COVID-19.

โ€œConsequently, I have proceeded on 14 days self-isolation and treatment at home.

โ€œNevertheless, I remain committed to continuing to discharge my duties as the Commissioner for Health and Deputy Incident Commander for COVID-19 responses in Lagos State.

โ€œI am extremely enthusiastic and hopeful of overcoming this phase of our collective fight against COVID-19.

โ€œI wish to, however, assure you all that my family members and I are fine and are responding positively to treatment,โ€ he wrote.

The commissioner urged residents of the state to continue to wear face masks, maintain physical distancing, as well as obey other established protocols for COVID-19 prevention.

Meanwhile, the Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, through hisย Twitterย handle on Monday, wished Abayomi speedy recovery.

โ€œI wish my dear brother and colleague @ProfAkinAbayomi, a speedy recovery. Very grateful for your strong leadership of the COVID-19 response in Lagos State.

โ€œWe will keep pushing, and urge Nigerians to adhere to all public health and safety measures, so we can control this outbreak,โ€ Ihekweazu wrote.
