in a desperate bid to combat insecurity, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara on Thursday signed an executive order banning the sale of un-labelled loaves of bread, bagging of bread, sale of petrol above 50 litres as well as the use of tinted glasses in Zamfara State.
Governor Lawal signed the executive order in his office at the Government House, Gusau.
A statement by the Zamfara governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the Executive Order No. 02 and Order No. 04 2024 address various concerns identified as contributing factors to the security challenges in the state. He said the restriction order was issued following recent attacks in some communities in the state.
“Following the recent spate of attacks on some communities in some local government areas of the state, particularly Zurmi, Shinkafi, Kaura Namoda and Talata Mafara, and the resurgence of activities of banditry, kidnapping in communities and some major federal roads in the state, Governor Lawal has signed Executive Order No. 02 2024, banning the sale of unlabelled and bagged bread.

The statement read in part: “Following the recent spate of attacks on some communities in some local government areas of the state, particularly Zurmi, Shinkafi, Kaura Namoda and Talata Mafara, and the resurgence of activities of banditry, kidnapping in communities and some major federal roads in the state, Governor Lawal has signed Executive Order No. 02 2024, banning the sale of unlabelled and bagged bread and prohibiting some undesirable activities in the state.
“All bakeries must, with immediate effect, label their bread with the full address and details of their production plant.
“All petroleum filling stations in the state shall not sell more than fifty (50) litres of petrol to vehicles at any one time. The sale of petroleum products at filling stations shall also be restricted from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
“The transport/sale of bread is restricted within the capital of each local government: for Gusau, the restriction is limited to the following areas: Damba-Zaria Road; Gada Biyu-Sokoto Road; Command Guest House along Kaura Namoda Road; Gusau Garage-Dansadau Road,” the statement further read.
As well as other banned items and activities, Executive Order No. 04, 2024 was also signed by the governor to ban the use of tinted glasses by all vehicle owners in Zamfara.
