Joy, Celebration As Students Shine Brightly At Brookstone School Graduation

It was all fun and fanfare as Brookstone School, International Foundation Year  One (IYONE) had its annual graduation and prize giving day for the class of 2021 at the weekend.

It was not only the completion of the course for the 2021 class that was cause for joy by the students and their happy parents and guardians,  it was also the day that the school moved to its ultra-modern permanent site.

Every year, students from Brookstone International School, which is in partnership with the Northern Universities Consortium in the United Kingdom (NCUK), have progressed to various NCUK partner universities and have graduated with excellent results.

The school has also won numerous awards which include: Nest Academic Award

University Admission Award

Outstanding Admission Award

Study Centre of the Year, amongst others.

This year,  it was a double celebration as Brookstone moved to its ultra-modern permanent site on the same date.

The partnership of Brookstone with the NCUK opens a window of opportunity for all students in the school to proceed to over 80 Universities that are in partnership

The students graduated in 4 different streams: Science, Engineering, Business and the Humanities.

The subject awards given out for the IFY (September 2020 & January 2021 intakes) was as follows:

(1) Best in Biology – Ogochukwu Juliet Ohakwe

(2) Best in Business Studies – Bethany M. Idongesit Ekpo and Uwhetu Franklin-Obadiah

(3) Best in Chemistry – Ogochukwu Juliet Ohakwe and Tricia Kenechukwu Njoku

(4) Best in Economics – Uwhetu Franklin-Obadiah

(5) Best in English for Proficient Users – Uwhetu Franklin-Obadiah

(6) Best in Maths Business – Ogechukwu Julian Ohakwe

(7) Best in Maths Engineering – Zuriel Kambilichukwu Nkoro

(8) Best in Maths Science – Akuchinyere Lucy Nwachukwu

(9) Best in Physics – Zuriel Kambilichukwu Nkoro

(10) Best in Society & Politics –  Uwhetu Franklin-Obadiah

One of the highlights was the opening and the impending movement to the permanent site. The site seats on a space of 2.5 acres with the administrative building and the classes being the most imposing of the buildings.

Others include a sprawling 120- student hostel (boys), 120- student hostel (female) and a modern cafeteria. There is also space earmarked for various games including a standard football field.

Facilities include fully equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and ICT amongst others which had the parents applauding  the management of the school

The Chairman Governing Council of the school, Chief Kalada Apiafi while presenting the award presentation on behalf of the Board “for students worthy in character” exhorted the students to work with the core values of the school which are: faith in God, Integrity, discipline, excellence, love, self-confidence, initiative, team work, respect for others and diligence in their journey in life.

The Abuja centre manager of Brookstone, Mr. Samson Ogunyemi in a brief chat with reporters after the event, said with the commissioning of the Brookstone permanent site, the best is yet to come.

Ogunyemi said everyone had a great feeling especially as there has been the demand as well as the vision to make it happen. “That we’re here today has been a very exciting experience for us.

“Here, we have everything we need to function maximally, and we can’t just wait to start. The management has invested heavily in the project, and the teaching staff can’t wait to ensure that every student become excellent in their activities”, he said,

According to Ogunyemi, the next move is to “expand, open up and get into the market, and for every parent to come and we what Brookstone has.”

Speaking of behalf of the elated graduates International Foundation Year (2021) Valedictorian, Uwhetu Franklin-Obadiah, described Saturday event as a pivotal moment in their lives.  Further describing the graduation ceremony as a joyful event which came after nights of studying, Uwhetu took time out thank all the parents, academic and non-academic staff of Brookstone School. 

She said: “To our parents, we are grateful for your undying investments in us. We will not let you down. Graduation is a pointer to a bright future. But the bright future can only be achieved through diligence”.

Vice-Principal of Brookstone School, Cyprian Anyahucha, charged the graduating students to be agents of positivity anywhere they go, in his vote of thanks. Urging that they avoid joining the bandwagon, he called on the students to make Brookstone proud by displaying academic excellence at the universities they are headed to.
