Four members of the House of Representatives, on Thursday, defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defecting lawmakers are ; Rep. Donates Mathew, Kaduna State, Rep Tochukwu Okere, Imo State, Bassey Akiba, Cross River State, Iyawu Esosa Edo and Rep Erthiatake Ibori-Suenu, Delta State, who defected from PDP to the ruling party.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, announced the list of decamping members on the floor of the green chamber during plenary.
But in a swift response, the minority whip, Ali Isah JC (PDP-Gombe), asked the Speaker to declare the seats of the defecting opposition lawmakers vacant in line with Section 68(1) of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended).
The Speaker, however, said the lawmaker has failed to quote the whole section he quoted to justify his call to declare the seats vacant.
