The back and forth between the Tory Leader Kemi Badenoch and Nigeria took another twist on Wednesday with Badenoch replying to Vice President Kashim Shettima’s call for her to stop degenerating her country of origin.
The vice president on Tuesday chastised Badenoch over her negative comments about her country of origin.
He said: “Kemi Badenoch, leader of the British Conservative Party — we are proud of her despite her efforts to denigrate her nation of origin.
“She is entitled to her opinions, even her right to remove ‘Kemi’ from her name, but that does not negate the fact that Nigeria is the greatest Black nation on earth. One in every three or four Black people is a Nigerian, and by 2050, Nigeria will be the third most populous nation on earth, alongside the United States.”
But, in response to VP Shettima’s comments, Badenoch insisted on standing by her words, saying she had no intention of softening her statements. “I tell the truth. I tell it like it is. I am not going to couch my words,” she told reporters on Wednesday. “I am the leader of the opposition, and I am very proud of my leadership of the opposition in this country. I am not the PR for Nigeria.”
Badenoch’s past remarks, which often highlighted her experiences growing up in Nigeria, sparked debate in the UK and Nigeria.
