Lagos Assembly’s First Deputy Speaker Adediran Dies

Despite the rumors’ of her waking up when being prepared for burial, as seen in a video clip on Facebook, Frontline News reports that the first Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs Adetoun Adediran, has died.

Adediran, who was also a former women leader of the All Progressive Congress, Lagos chapter, was said to have died in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness.

The Spokesperson of the Lagos APC, Mr Seye Oladejo, confirmed this to Punch newspaper when contacted by its correspondent.

He said, “She was a former women leader for Lagos Central, a consummate politician and a committed leader of her people who contributed immensely to the growth of the party and the development of Lagos State. She will be sorely missed.”

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has described the for Lagos Deputy Speaker’s death as shocking. He said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that her death was a personal loss.

Gbajabiamila said: “The death of Hon. Adetoun Adediran came to me as a rude shock. She was my political associate, the first elected female Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA 1999-2003); a one time All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State and Lagos Central Woman Leader and until her death, a Governing Board Member of Michael Otedola College of Education (MOCPED), Epe, Lagos State and a Senior Legislative Adviser in the office of the Speaker, House of Representatives.

“Her death came as a shock because we were together a few days ago during the commissioning of projects in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency, where she gave a supporting hand during the ceremony. Her death would create a void in the party as she was a very committed party woman, her wise counsel and active participation in party activities would be greatly missed”.

“I pray for the repose of her soul. I encourage her family, associates, Surulere Constituents, APC and Lagos State Government to take solace in the knowledge that she lived a fulfilled and impactful life before her demise”, he added.
