My Dear Vice President,I am taking the liberty writing you this letter in the hope that even if you didn’t get to read it, some of your aides, or those close to you will do so and perhaps avail you of its content.
It is no longer a matter of conjecture that our country is greatly impelled on several fronts– economically, security-wise, decayed infrastructure, human rights and all that signpost a troubled entity.
The argument continues to subsist if it is squarely a function of leadership or followership, and those who take the middle ground of both. As a pupil of the John Maxwell School of Leadership, I remain persuaded that the ability to manage, inspire and motivate followers has a larger percentage in determining the upward or downward trajectory of any country, enterprise and or institution.
It is for this reason and more I agree with those who have continued to bemoan the fate that has befallen our country since independence. While there are intermittent sparks in terms of those entrusted with the destiny of Nigeria, it has largely fallen to those ill-equipped mentally, emotionally, intellectually and with provincial mindset and primitive proclivity for acquisition.
As the next election cycle gets in motion, there have been speculations, from the outright banal, to the insanely conspiratorial, as to what your fate is. In simple terms, Mr. Vice President, there are those who say you have “been schemed out,” you “can’t “show your face in the ring,” because your boss and a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has joined the presidential fray.
The destiny of this country is too important at this material time to be sacrificed on the altar of some nebulous, personal loyalty. It is important I bring to your knowledge that President Thomas Jefferson of the United States served as vice president to John Adams, who was the second president of that great country. But when it mattered most, Jefferson ran against him in 1800 and defeated him in the election.
While it is true that Asiwaju gave you a footing, it is also a fact that were you not well equipped, he would have looked past you. What I am saying is that you are a man of faith that destiny calls to answer the clarion summons of millions of Nigerians.
This country is in dire need of a man of faith and hope. A man of vision and impact. A man of know-how and broad world view. A man of wisdom and empathy. What this country does not need now is a man full of politics and pedigree enmeshed in controversy and dubiousness. This country needs less drama and near-absolute fragility. We have had enough of those
.It is important to also remind you that those who they say you are up against know your abilities and in their words have said it.
President Muhammadu Buhari himself had cause to say of you: “I’m proud to have selected Osinbajo as my running mate and he has given a good account of himself since our journey began in 2015.“The Vice President is a cool-headed gentleman who puts the interest of Nigeria above other narrow considerations.
“Vice President Osinbajo is an incredibly patient politician who demonstrates remarkable intellectual and mental energy in the discharge of his duties.
”Furthermore, the Asiwaju himself stated, “May he always work for the good of the nation and do his best to continue to reform the economy as is his mandate as VP, so that all Nigerians may drink of the cup of prosperity and hope.“
I pray that your efforts bear the fullest fruit and that history will speak fondly of your efforts and achievements.”
