Leaders of Mabushi community, a satellite town within the federal capital territory have revealed rising cases of Tuberculosis amongst residents of the community.
Speaking on Saturday in Abuja during the Advocacy and Sensitization meting to the Leaders of Mabushi community at the Chief Palace, the Madaki, revealed that some residents including himself have had cough for over three weeks without knowing how to treat it.
He appreciated the Tuberculosis program for bringing the sensitization program to Mabushi community which is largely predisposed to Tuberculosis due to the rising population and clustered nature of the house.
In his response, the Program Manager TB, Association for Reproductive and Family Health, Dr. John Osho said the sensitization meeting with the elders is aimed at community mobilization towards the forth coming world TB day.
Dr Osho added that it is important to address community spread of Tuberculosis via testing and treatment which is completely free.
“We ask that you sensitize and enlighten your subjects about Tuberculosis and its dangers, we will come back on 21st March to carry out free tests and we want you to invite as many as possible to come for the test” Dr Osho said.
During the interactive session, the Assistant Focal person for Childhood Tuberculosis Stella Ekeh reinstated the need for all confirmed Tuberculosis cases to be properly treated, adding that all TB treatment including childhood Tuberculosis is free.
World Tuberculosis day is celebrated every 24th March to raise awareness on Tuberculosis and best measures to prevent it.
The theme for this year is Invest to end TB, Save lives, with the slogan Do more, give more, End TB now.
