The new wave of killing in the name of religion hit Nigeria’s capital city on Saturday with an angry mob killing a member of a vigilance group for allegedly making a blasphemous statement.
Punch reports that members of the vigilance group guarding the Timber shed market at the Federal Housing Estate in Abuja attempted to arrest some residents loitering around the market in the early hours of Saturday.
The residents tried to beg the vigilance group to free them in the name of Allah but one of the vigilantes kicked and made comments alleged to be blasphemous.
The newspaper quotes a resident in the area as saying the vigilante was beaten and stoned before he was set ablaze.
