National Coordinator of the National Defence College Officers Wives Association, Mrs. Anthonia Osinowo on Thursday gave a grade-A rating to the training programmes and empowerment schemes designed and implemented by the National Centre for Women’s Development (NCWD), Abuja.
Osinowo, who led over 200 members of her association on a courtesy visit to NCWD, also expressed delight on the state of training facilities at the Centre, saying she was inspired by the quality of service provided Nigerian women at the Centre.
“Our visit here today is an eye opener. I never knew that the National Centre for Women Development has so much to offer, most especially in the area of training women in ways that, they become independent when they complete these well executed skill acquisition programmes.
“We are particularly inspired by the Nigerian women hall of fame and we believe that with hard work and dedication, our members can also make it into that hall of prestige. I know that with the standard of the facilities seen during this tour, my members will be interested in our collaborating with you in order for some of us to participate in your training programmes”, Osinowo said.
The NADCOWA president also commended the Director-General of NCWD , Mrs. Mary Ekpere-Eta Esq., for what she described as her effective and benevolent leadership style, opining that her hands-on approach was integral to recently recorded progress at the agency.
In her response, Ekpere-Eta reiterated the commitment of the Buhari administration to improving the lot of Nigerian women, adding that the NCWD as the lead agency for women empowerment will not relent in strengthening its capacity to meet the goals of government as it relates to women.
“We have invested and reinvested in making the Centre up to date, to make it an institution whose products are some of the best in their area of specialization. Right from here in Abuja, to other parts of the country, NCWD is the foundation of many success stories in fashion, agriculture, ICT, MSMEs and of recent artisanship.
“Here in Abuja, one of the best car wash liquids is produced by one of our trainees. Many of our trainees are the most sought -after beauticians in the big cities. We give the best of well structured instruction to women who participate in our training and empowerment schemes, with many of these participants having their lives change for the better”, the D.G said.
Ekpere-Eta, who led the August visitors on a tour of the Dora Akunyili Guest House which has been upgraded to a 3-star standard, also used to the opportunity to call for collaboration among women organisations, as it is key to empowering and enlightening women.
