…….APC”ll affirm Buhari as presidential candidate

The House of Representatives is set to reconvene either on Tuesday or Wednesday next week to consider the virement request of N242 billon sent by President Muhammad Buhari to the National Assembly for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.
Deputy Speaker of the House Rep Yusuff Lasun made this known during a press briefing at the National Assembly on Thursday.
Lasun, who led members of the All Progressives Congress Caucus in the House to the media parley, which followed a meeting of the caucus, stated the likelihood of the reconvening of the House despite National Assembly being on its annual vacation.
He explained that the decision of the National Assembly to reconvene was part of the fallout of the meeting held between the leadership of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)Prof Mahmood Yakub on Wednesday.
“The executive has proposed a virement, the House will likely reconvene on Tuesday or Wednesday next week, he said.
Lasun described as highly unacceptable, the invasion of the National Assembly by masked operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) on Tuesday.
This is as he commended Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on the sack of the Director-General of the secret police Mr. Lawal Daura.
Lasun stated that the All Progressives Congress APC is still the majority party in both chambers of the National Assembly.
Fielding questions from newsmen on whether they APC Caucus is dissociating itself from the Parliamentary Support Group-led by Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin, he said that the APC in the House is united.
He also declared that President Muhammadu Buhari enjoyed the full support of the APC Caucus in the House to contest for second term. Lasun said the president is likely to be affirmed as the APC’s presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has appealed to the Peoples Democratic Party PDP colleagues and the general public not to use the blockade of the apex parliament by the DSS to malign the party.
Gbajabimila who is also the APC Caucus leader said that it was wrong to use the blockade of the apex legislative house by of the DSS to malign President Muhammad Buhari and the APC.
He added that that as a party, they would order an investigation into the matter with a view to determining who did what and for what reasons.
