Chief Edet Isong, Publisher Newsday Newspaper has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Barr Effiong Akwa, as Interim Administrator, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
He described Akwa’s appointment as being in line with Buhari’s tradition of appointing experienced technocrats with impeccable reputation.
Isong, who is also the Founder Isong Childcare and Health Foundation in a personally signed statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, further described the choice of the new NDDC helmsman, as one that will bring stability to the agency, as well as instigate confidence across the Niger-Delta region.

The statement read in part: “The appointment of Barr Effiong Akwa, as Interim Administrator, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) stands out as a good example of putting a round peg in a round hole. For this excellent choice of an Interim Administrator for the NDDC, I commend President Muhammadu Buhari and call on Barr Akwa to recompense the confidence Mr. President has shown in him by stabilizing the NDDC, blocking all loopholes and completing projects that will bring development to our region”.
Effiong Akwa, served as Acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration at the NDDC. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB).
He was the regional manager in charge of South/South, of CDB plc ( now FCMB.) Also former MD of Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd.
He also worked as the Special Assistant on Finance to a former MD of NDDC, Sir. Bassey Dan Abia. He hails from Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
