As part of efforts to promote a high standard of secondary school education in the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT ), a group of Non Governmental Organisations ( NGO ) under auspices of School Outreach for Better Education (SOBE) have joined forces with the view to uplift education quality in the nation’s capital.
The initiative which is aimed at enlightening students on the dangers of substance abuse, provide sex education, combat bullying, and offer scholarships was anchored by A New Thing International Foundation, Caleb Initiative for Drug Abuse Awareness, Ikios Foundation, Julie Education Foundation, Kingcity Global Solutions, Hearts by Design , May Foundation , Notchlens alongside passionate individuals.
In a statement signed by the Executive Director of A New Thing Foundation, Ambassador Kenneth Anetor on behalf of the group on Thursday said the significance of these outreach programs in curbing secondary school dropout rates attributed to factors like substance abuse, unwanted pregnancies, and poverty.
Anetor urged well-meaning Nigerians, governmental bodies, private organizations, and fellow NGOs to unite with the coalition of passionate individuals and groups committed to advancing educational development
The coalition said it has visited numerous educational institutions, including Pace Setters School, Government Secondary School Airport, Government Day Secondary School Dutse Alhaji, and several others across various communities in Abuja.
The statement read, “ The FCT Secondary Education sector sees a glimmer of hope as a coalition of NGOs including A New Thing International Foundation, Caleb Initiative for Drug Abuse Awareness, Ikios Foundation, Julie Education Foundation, Kingcity Global Solutions, Hearts by Design , May Foundation , Notchlens alongside passionate individuals, join forces to uplift education quality in the Federal Capital Territory.
“ Under the banner of School Outreach for Better Education (SOBE), they launch campaigns at Pace Setters School, Government Secondary Schools across various locations such as Airport, Dutse Alhaji, Gosa, Gui, Paikon Kore, Dobi, Abaji, Tukpechi, Yangoji, Jabi, and Legacy Academy Lugbe throughout March.
“ The mission of the outreach is to enlighten students on substance abuse, provide sex education, combat bullying, and offer scholarships. Amb. Kenneth Anetor, the Convener and Executive Director of A New Thing Foundation, and Consultant to the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, expressed profound gratitude to all participants.
“ He emphasized the significance of these outreach programs in curbing secondary school dropout rates attributed to factors like substance abuse, unwanted pregnancies, and poverty. This initiative marks the inaugural step towards a series of strategic outreach programs nationwide, aimed at raising awareness on critical issues impacting adolescents “
