Nigerian Customs intercepts $8.6m from traveler at Lagos Airport

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made a huge interception.

Operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command intercepted over $8.6million.

The money was wrapped in large brown envelopes and were to be loaded into an aircraft.

Customs Comptroller-General, Hameed Ali, at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, disclosed that the cash was discovered in a car.

The vehicle is owned by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO).

Ali said the driver of the vehicle and a staff of NAHCO are in custody for alleged money laundering.

โ€œFrom the day we seized this money, no bank has come to claim ownership.

โ€œBut our investigation will reveal the mystery behind the owners,โ€ Ali said.
