The Northern Senators Forum has elected Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua as its new chairman following the resignation of Bauchi Central Senator, Abdul Ningi.
Yar’Adua who replaces Ningi is the younger brother of the former President of Nigeria, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who died in office in 2010.
He is also the younger brother to the former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua who died while imprisoned by the Abacha government in Abakaliki in 1997.
Ningi tendered his resignation as the leader of the NSF after he was handed a three-month suspension at the Senate on Tuesday.
Senate suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for three months over his claim that the 2024 Budget was padded to the tune of N3.7 trillion.
Ningi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Population and he represents Bauchi Central.
Yar’Adua replacing Ningi is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the lawmaker representing Katsina Central in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
In a statement on Thursday, the forum also named Senator Tahir Mungono representing Borno North as its spokesperson to replace Senator Sumaila Kawu.
