Popular Abuja based lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju has shared pictures following the release of Speed Darlington, controversial social media personality by the police.

Recall that Adeyanju had announced that Speed also known as Akpi was actually detained by the police after a friend had declared him missing for three days. “We have just located Speed Darlington and we are working on getting him freed. The attack against freedom of expression in Nigeria must stop. You can’t be singing against oppressors and still be an oppressor”, the lawyer had said in Facebook post, adding, “We just spent the last 30mins with Speed Darlington and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around and eventually brought to Abuja and has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy we can confirm”.

Netizens had traced Speed’s detention to his controversial videos in which he asked Afro-fusion star, Burna Boy, to explain if disgraced music mogul Sean ‘Diddy” Combs facilitated his Grammy win. Born Damini Ogulu, Buna Boy won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album in 2021 with Twice As Tall. He has maintained dominance globally with successive albums I Told Them and Love, Damini.

The usually taciturn musician replied with a short post “Who is missing/” on X, that he was behind Speed’s arrest.

The Imo State born social media personality has since been released as shared by Adeyanju on Facebook. “Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore , super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke and to all Nigerians for raising their voices for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today” Adeyanju shared on Facebook, to announce Speed’s release Tuesday night.
