Plot to impeach Saraki fails as he presides over plenary

…..Reps Minority Leader hailed as new Majority Leader

The alleged plot to remove the leadership of the Senate today seems to  have failed as Frontline News Online can disclose that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki made a surprise entry into the National Assembly complex and he is currently presiding over plenary.

This morning policemen cordoned off Saraki’s Maitama home and that of his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, leading to speculation that an impeachment plot was unfolding.

The police for a second time invited the Senate President for questioning over the Offa robbery attack yesterday.

Saraki responded by describing the second round of invitation as a political game, insisting that no amount of pressure will stop him from leaving  the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It is expected that the Senate President  will lead the way in a round of defections that may see APC losing its majority.

During Monday’s National Executive Council meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, Acting Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rep. Chukwuka Onyema, boasted that the PDP will soon take over as the majority party in the Green Chamber.

Frontline News Online can disclose that Onyema was hailed as Majority Leader as he walked into the National Assembly complex today.

Recall that the Majority Leader, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, had dismmised threats of aggrieved APC lawmakers to dump the party.

Gbajabiamila had told journalists after an emergency meeting of the APC House Caucus last week, that he had no fears that the ruling party would lose it majority in the lower chamber.

Meanwhile Senator Shehu Sani has debunked speculations that his house was also surrounded by police this morning.

The vocal senator explained in  a Facebook post, that plain cloth policemen did visit his home. But they didn’t make any move to block his movement.

“My house is not under siege but I’ve received calls that ‘some plain clothes men’ just came to my Abuja residence asking of me, after I’ve have left for office.I’m available.I’m a Revolutionary. We’ve been through this in the years of the Struggle” he stated.
