
……Say Dispatch Rider Assaulted in Critical Condition,placed on Oxygen
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers ,NURTW 55-year-old Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, for the alleged murder of a Lagos resident, Adeshina Rahman and violent assault on a Dispatch Rider on Lagos Island.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi also confirmed that the resident attacked by Oladiti on August 28,2025 died on September 17,2025.
He also said Oladiti also attacked a dispatch rider on September 17. He however said the rider was still in hospital placed on oxygen.
The suspect is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, Lagos.
Oladiti attacked the two men on Lagos Island following disputes over union transport dues. It took the intervention of the Commissioner of Police to douse tension on the Island following protest after the news of the death of the first man assaulted by Oladiti broke and confirmation that the dispatch rider was in critical condition.
The Police Statement:
“On September 17, 2025, at about 3pm, the suspect allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, using a helmet and fists to inflict serious bodily injury.
The victim was rushed to hospital, placed on oxygen, and is currently receiving medical treatment.
On September 18, 2025, at about 11am, another complaint was lodged against the same suspect in connection with an incident that occurred on August 28, 2025.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a metallic ring to repeatedly strike a man on the head and face, inflicting severe injuries. Despite medical intervention, the victim was confirmed dead by a doctor on September 17, 2025. His body has since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Following news of the death, sympathizers of the deceased mobilized and staged a violent protest at the suspect’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, setting two motorcycles belonging to the suspect ablaze and causing unrest in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led police personnel comprising mobile policemen, conventional police officers, and tactical squads to the scene.
He swiftly restored calm, prevented further breakdown of law and order, and assured residents that the suspect is in custody and will be promptly prosecuted after investigations are concluded.

The Fatal Encounter: How NURTW Chieftain Inflicted Fatal Injuries on Lagos Resident
On August 28 ,2025 Samsideen Oladiti, popularly called Shamelon and three others repeatedly pummeled Adeshina Rahman in the head . Oladiti also hit Rahman on the head and his face with a ring while also kicking him. The brutal encounter was over payment of dues charged by transport unions in the state.
Shamelon and the three others then dragged Rahman on the floor kicking and blowing him in the head. Rahman was rushed to the hospital where doctors worked round the clock to save him but the injuries inflicted on him by Oladiti was fatal as he suffered blood clots in the brain . He succumbed to the injuries on September 17,2025.
